Broadside Lotus Press is an independent Black-owned publishing house based in Detroit, Michigan, formed in 2015 by the merger of Broadside Press and Lotus Press. Broadside Press was founded in 1965 by Dudley Randall and played a foundational role in the Black Arts Movement, publishing landmark works by Audre Lorde, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sonia Sanchez, Nikki Giovanni, and others. Lotus Press, founded in 1972 by Naomi Long Madgett, was dedicated to nurturing African American poets and preserving Black literary culture. Together, the merged press continues to promote poetry rooted in African American experiences, resistance, and identity.
